Mary Engelbreit: We wanted to do a cookbook, but everyone knows I don't cook so I asked all my favorite cooks for their favorite (and MY favorite!) recipes. Then we asked our fans to send in their favorite recipes and now we have a book full of the kind of food EVERYONE loves!
CommitmentNow.com: You state that you are not the chef in your family. Do you have to be a good cook to appreciate good food?
Mary: All you need is a good set of tastebuds. And I appreciate any food someone else has taken the time to make for me!
CommitmentNow.com: These recipes come from all over the country – from Orlando, Florida to Hammond, Louisiana to Venetia, Pennsylvania! Were you surprised by the number of recipes you received?
Mary: We were overwhelmed! As a matter of fact, there is another cookbook in the works right now so we could publish all the rest of the fabulous recipes we received.

For example, Leslie Lundy says of her Chicken and Wild Rice Stew! “My best compliment was when a friend told me that even her children request this stew?” Do you think these personal notes add flavor to the recipes?
Mary: I think these personal notes are what makes this cookbook so special. This is the kind of food that becomes family favorites and the recipes are passed down from generation to generation. It's the kind of food that if you DON'T bring this dish to the Christmas dinner or the family reunion, everyone is crushed and disappointed!
CommitmentNow.com: You are best known for your greeting cards, which are extremely popular. You have also been involved with home décor, stationery and crafting products. What projects are you working on now?
Mary: I am working on my new children's book "The Nutcracker" for next year and we are waiting for my new Fairy Tales book to arrive for this fall. And look for lots of new programs at Michaels, including baking products, garden, and new Christmas items!
