CommitmentNow.com: The Super, Sexy, Single Mom on a Budget is a how-to book for single moms who are trying to manage their children and a social life - while on a budget! Why did you decide to write this book?
Renee Rayles: Single moms often unfairly get penned with a negative connotation. Many books talk about “surviving” or “dealing” with single parenthood. Why do I have to survive my life, I thought? I love my life and am a successful single mom, yet people seem surprised. Therefore, I wanted to create a motivational reference guide for single moms to get what they want in life and still a great mom. With the success of that book The Super, Sexy Mom on a Budget has just been published for all moms.
CommitmentNow.com: You include “sexy tips” throughout the book. Why is it important for a single mom to feel sexy?
Renee: Because your sexuality isn’t over because you are a mom. Feeling sexy makes a woman feel confident and vice versa. For single moms, it’s pertinent to feel sexy as they are still dating.
CommitmentNow.com: In your book you say that at one point you were so poor that you could only afford to buy spaghetti! What are some things a single mom on a budget can do to save money on groceries?
Renee: Shop ads online. It’s fast and easy, not to mention saves you time knowing which stores are offering what sales. Don’t be embarrassed to use coupons, it’s free money.
CommitmentNow.com: Your book begins with topics on budgeting time and multi-tasking. How important is keeping a schedule?
Reneee: As a parent, especially a single parent, organization is key to keeping your sanity. Schedules sound monotonous and I am not a fan of them, but organizing a schedule during school and works days makes life easier.
CommitmentNow.com: You have personal goals and ambitions that have nothing to do with parenting. Why is that so important to you?
Renee: Being a mom doesn’t 100% complete me and moms shouldn’t feel bad saying those words. If it did, we would never let our children leave the nest. Being a mom is a beautiful blessing that words can’t describe, but I still have needs outside of being a mom. I make sure those goals and ambitions also fit my lifestyle, but without them your passion for life can disintegrate. The movie American Beauty is my worst fear of life. You have everything, yet you don’t because you lack passion in life.
CommitmentNow.com: Why is “me time” important for single moms?
Renee: Without “me time” mom can’t be the best mom she can be to her children. We all need down time, and it can be very hard to find. Taking small moments, even if it’s before picking up our children from school are important to our well being as parents.
CommitmentNow.com: As a super, sexy, single mom, what tips do you have for dating?
Renee: Try lunch dates as you don’t need a babysitter and it’s a easy way to get to know someone. Don’t let more than two dates go by before telling your date you’re a mom, it’s nothing to be ashamed nor anything you wear on a shirt. Check out your local YMCA for Parent’s Night Out where you don’t have to be a member to get some dating time in your calendar.
CommitmentNow.com: What is the most difficult part of being a single mom?
Renee: My first day of high school I wore glasses because I had an eye infection, braces, a back brace for scoliosis, and my mother was the assistant principal in charge of discipline. It takes a lot for me to say something is difficult when it’s so precious.
